Re-roofing FAQs · The re-roof process

How long does a re-roof take?

With Corey's team at CTR Roofing, most re-roofs take 2 to 4 days on site. Roofing manufacturer Dimond gives 3 to 5 days as a general guide. Allow for a wait before that too: Dimond says work may start 4 to 6 weeks after the deposit is paid.

What can stretch it

  • Weather. Roofers can't lay a roof in rain, strong wind or frost. Waikato winters bring more wet days and frosty starts, so allow extra days between May and August.
  • Two storeys. Full scaffolding has to go up first and come down last.
  • Rot under the old roof. Damaged battens or purlins are replaced before the new roof goes on.
  • A complex roof. Valleys, chimneys and skylights each need flashings made to fit.

If you're working to a fixed date, such as a house sale, tell the roofer when you accept the quote so weather days are built into the plan.

Will the house be open to the rain overnight?

It shouldn't be. Roofers strip only the section they can close in again the same day.
