Re-roofing FAQs · The re-roof process
Can we stay home during a re-roof?
Yes, most families stay home. A re-roof is done from the outside, the power and water stay on, and the roof is closed in again at the end of each day. The hardest part is the noise, mostly on the days the old roof comes off.
Plan for the week
- Hours. Under the construction noise standard NZS 6803, noisy work is allowed 7.30am to 6pm on weekdays and Saturdays. Your council can set different hours.
- Kids and pets. Keep them clear of the scaffold and the roof edge. For nervous pets, or if you work from home, the stripping days are worth spending somewhere else.
- The driveway. Park on the street and leave room for the truck, the skip and the sheet delivery.
- Before day one. Move stored items out of the ceiling space, take mirrors and pictures off top-floor walls, and point out plants you want protected.
Is it safe to be inside while they work?
Yes. The crew works on top of your existing ceilings. The area to avoid is outside, under the roof edge.
